Any idea how soon the dollar will crash? Got my eye on something from a USD using site, might hold off for a while. It was great for me back in 2007 when £1 got $2.

You're still rich, Malice? All the busts and pitfalls that have destroyed peoples' wealth in recent years and Malice Black is still rich?

There ain't no justice.

(Just kidding - I love you long time )

malice, geez.
long term thinking by our government???? ROFL!!!!!! aint gonna happen (most companies here are the same way---they ONLY think about today and possible tomorrow...next week? next month???? next year??? whasdat?)

the us wont drop farther on the credit rating as these are the same people who let all those banks have AAA ratings as well (and that caused part of the problem with those bad mortgages)......and people (and companies, countries....) are getting suspicious about how they come up with these ratings now.

wish I could have retired at 35....hm...10 years ago....lets see....911...I took a nice trip to japan, was virtually retired anyways ....and since I am not working now, I guess I AM retired ..../sigh

If you look at the recent reluctance of the Swiss monetary authorities to allow excessive hot money flows into the domestic currency, you will quickly realize that the franc has none of the qualities necessary in a reserve currency.

The Swiss frank presides over a tiny, fragile market which simply cannot exist under the pressure of global speculatory flows generated through the loose monetary policy pursued by the Fed over the past years.

The sharp appreciation in the franc is jeopardizing domestic growth and harming international competitiveness of local exporters, in turn undermining the very quality which attracts investors to the franc in the first place.
The currency's current popularity stems from the fact that many financial institutions have become heavily capitalized as a consequence of the two quantitative easing programs, but remain reluctant to utilize this spare cash by investing it into the real economy, as signified by high interbank borrowing rates as well as excessive interest rates charged to domestic consumers. These market participants instead scour global markets in search of a financial instrument ot exploit for a quick buck.

As we are currently seeing a partial consolidation of the financial market to better reflect the state of the real economy, these speculatory flows are leaving equities and a new trend towards gold and safe haven currencies such as the yen is becoming apparent. However such flows are only transitory and it is a matter of time before the institutional investors chose to once again channel hot money into yet another, new area, leaving the Swiss franc without support.

As for now, the lack of financial clout exhibited by the CBSs' attempts to stem the dangerous appreciation of the franc clearly testifies that such a small economy cannot be a host to the global reserve currency.

As for investing large sums into the Chinese market, that may not be such a bad idea at all, but I guess this post is long enough without indulging into the reasons behind that. I would be more than glad to discuss the topic further however if anyone is interested.

Right right right. Let's put a stop to this topic now. =P If you wish to discuss this topic please do it elsewhere. While I do enjoy proper conversation on good topics. This is getting a little on the political side for these forums. Sorry. =P

My gf came over last night so we made pizza. Friday we are grilling out at her place. Should be a good time. Nom nom nom.

Hump day. And picture day. New camcorder is coming in today and I have to go to the DMV after work today to change the title over on my car. Should be "fun".

I didn't feel it where I work, but they felt it north of us in the Boston area.
I am more concerned with Hurricane Irene as a few of the models showing it going right over the top of us as a possible Cat 2, that could be a real problem with all the rain we have had lately.

poor malice.

earthquakes--living in japan, I was there during the last 'big' one in Niigata, down by Nagoya it was still in the 5 range---remember it pretty well. (had plenty of tiny ones--5 or less, toooooo many to count whilst living there)
hurricanes--ditto above (do peeps still know what a ditto is?). first year 4, 2nd year 6 or 7 including GOING to a place that was having one (bad weather report ).....as well as visiting my mom during wilma (great shell picking on sanibal island afterwards--and it was EMPTY!!! ).....though I do have to say some of the thunderstorms we get in the middle of the usa are tons worse than most of the hurricanes/typhoons I have had the 'pleasure' of being in. (tornados are more destructive in my opinion than a hurricane).

and

new york is LONG overdue for its 'BIG' one anyways-----

Both are very destructive, but hurricanes last longer and on top of that, they spawn tornados and create devastating surge.

Irene could(things can change)come close to this storm track of
1938.

Hopefully it lessens in strength before it hits the US. It does look bad though for sure.

Well I got my new video camera today. Fedex left it by my door. In plain site. Awesomesauce Fedex. I also had 2 packages, but I only ordered one thing. Somewhere, there is a young child crying because their PBS Stegosaurus did not arrive today like Walmart probably said it would. Now I have to make a trip to Wal-Mart at some point to give them the item they sent me by mistake. The packing slip says it is another video camera. But it is clearly not... Oh boy.

Also went to the DMV today. Had to switch the title over on the car I drive to my name and get new plates. And get a new licenses. Apparently you are supposed to bring two pieces of mail with you... I didn't. But the lady who helped me was awesome and used the stuff she gave me for the title as proof of where I live. So I got all that done. Busy busy today.

pwnd. call the number on the packing slip- have them send you a new return label--dont go anywhere!! it was THEIR mistake not yours.
(and yeah, ups isnt any better....I use the usps since they either give me the package OR I pick it up at the post office---NO packages just DUMPED on my door --since I share mine with 3 other people, one of whom I dont trust).

For some reason dumped on doorstoop seems to equal delivered to lots of delivery people (the checks I used to get did that as well--and you could tell they were checks!--shant be using that company ever again since they did it to me twice!!).

yeah 2 pieces proving who you are and where you live--and depending on which state you live in you get about one to 3 months to change your license.

That is the thing. There is no number on the packing slip to call. It simply says go to Walmart.com to do returns. But I can't return it because I never purchased it... So I have to go into the store. I have to go into Wal-Mart eventually anyways to get food so meh. I'll just take it when I go. Plus the packing slip was the same one that I got with my camera. Some genius printed out the slip twice and put it on my actual package, and the other one.

Luckily for me, my neighbors are trustworthy, or they seem to be so far. And it wasn't facing the main road. There is only like 3 other people who live behind my apartment, so luckily it isn't horrible. Though I'm still no impressed.
